Introduction to Junk Food:
Food is one of the basic needs of life. To live a life one must consume foods every day. Some foods are best, which provide all the necessary things requires to perform all the functions of the body. But some foods are such that they provide less useful and more useless things to the body, these are called junk foods. Junk food is not bad food but it’s very unhealthy for the body, for our body mechanism. Junk food is nothing but a nutriment of fewer nutrients which has low nourishment to our body. When we have junk food it contains much quantity of salt, oil, spicy, unhealthy fats which is not good for our health and it occupied in our body too easily.
Let’s know about the real meaning of junk food. Normally the word junk implies the word dirty or useless. So it becomes dirt food or that food that is useless for our body. In other words “How Jung rusts iron like that junk food rusts our body”
What is junk food?
Actually, junk food is nothing simply indicates to poor food habits that we add to our daily lives. It has low nutrients and high calories, fats, sodium, etc. which is bad for our body. According to the study, we should not have junk food but we live in such a surrounding, which makes us have junk food abundantly. Because it is easy to make, less dependent, and time-saving food. It’s easy to carry and purchase. Junk food is very attractive by its texture, flavor, taste, color, and appearance. Junk food has little enzyme producing vitamins, minerals and contains high levels of calories. This junk food is also known as Processed food, Fast food, and ready-to-eat meals.
Junk food harmful effects:
Although junk food has no nutrients but consuming too much of it, the body loses essential nutrients and amino acids. There are a lot of bad effects of junk food on our body. The most common problems are increased obesity, lead to depression, worsen appetite, weak digestion, inadequate brain development, unbalanced hormones, unwanted hormonal changes.
When we eat junk food on regular basis, it leads to some major health issues like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and some cancers also. There can be some other health issues that we never imagined but too much junk food can do all those diseases. The diseases are like this:
- Dental cavities
- Heart Attack or Stroke
- Soreness of breath
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Weight gain
- Unwanted calories, and fats
- Blood sugar spike
- Bloating and puffiness
- Insulin resistance
- Lack of energy
- Body aches
- Low immune system
- Trouble sleeping
- Frequent mood swings
These are the most common health issues but we ignore these bad effects and consume all the fast food every day.
Junk food in India:
70% of Indian diet calories come from consuming carbohydrates and most of them are not necessarily from the best quality of carbohydrates. These poor-quality carbohydrates include a lot of sugar, flour-based products, snacks loaded with starch, loaves of bread, and white rice. Actually fattening and unhealthy because excess of anything is bad for one’s health. Eating too much of something that is not good for our health will harm our health since overeating is known to store the extra food as fat in the body. Our Indian foods have more oil because on special occasion use more oil for the base sauce or gravy to cook properly and quickly.
Any type of fat, oil, butter, ghee adds extra taste and flavor to the dish. Not only in restaurants but also most Indian families use about 1 tbsp of oil per person while making a curry. Indian food is heavy and greasy and unhealthy in restaurants, whereas home-style Indian food can be very healthy.
Some famous Indian junk foods:
In an Indian family junk food depends upon their religion, place, and society. If you are on the Eastern side of India, then you will get to eat vegetable Rava, upama, idli. When you belong to the Southern side of India, then you will get Dosha, Rawa, Wada, Aloo Bonda. If you are on the Northern side of India then you will get Amritsari Chole bhature, Paratha with too much butter and cheese and on the Western side paaun bhaji is famous. Although there are a lot of junk foods which are famous in India such as Golgapa, Chat, Upma, Puri, Momos, chow mien, Pizza, French Fries, Tandoori, Pasta, Rolls, Pakora, Samosa, Burger, Vada, Dosa, Chocolate, Ice cream, Kabab, Deep-fried bread, Kachori, Bhujia, Potato chips, Panipuri, Sugary drinks, Pastries, Cakes, Sweetened cereals et.
Junk food v/s Healthy food:
“Fast food may luscious for the tongue but destructive for the body”. We are aware of all the good and bad things but we don’t notice all the time what is good or bad for health. The major difference between junk food and healthy food is that healthy food helps in supplying more energy to our body. So that we can work all day long without feeling exhausted and tired. Healthy food mentions a whole lot of fresh and natural products like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and good fats. These things produce essential nutrients in our body and for several mechanisms of the body, fighting against sickness, and gives strength to our body to tackle diseases. Some of the healthy foods include apple, green veggies, carrots, oatmeal, beans, and legumes, lean meat, nuts, fish, eggs, avocado, milk, dairy products, and olive oil to mention.
While, junk food is highly processed food that is made up of zero calories foods loaded full of saturated fat, sugar, and lack of nutrients which neither provides the body to nurture nor helps to perform vital functions all throughout the day which leads to tiredness. It includes packaged food products like chips, cookies, cakes, pastries, candy soda, ice cream, and a list of fast items on the restaurants’ menus like pizza, pasta, burgers, and French fries.
Do’s & Dont’s:
Basically, we should eat healthy foods every day but due to lack of time and work pressure, we are bounded to eat junk food because healthy food takes time to prepare. Try to do more yoga, exercise, Zumba, cycling, walking, jogging, cardio, gym. Replace junk food with healthy food, Do more work out instead of sitting on a chair. Avoid your laziness. When you have your meal try to do this yoga position name “BARJRA ASAN”, it will help you for digestion and fat won’t deposit in your abdomen area. “Precaution is better than Prescription”.
Use more nutraceuticals instead of pharmaceuticals. We never think that we run after money, house, name, fame, and after unleashed desires throughout our entire life. To achieve these goals we ignore our health which is the most important to consider. Have we ever think, that we make all these things by sacrificing our happiness, health but these things will not go with us to the burial ground. The only one thing will stay all the time i.e our body our health and we destroy the most valuable body with junk food by unhealthy food.
Always watch out what eats, don’t depend upon the ready to eat, maybe it will take time to make prepare foods at home but it will help you to continue a good life. Avoid toxic drinks, foods, and use detoxify to cleanse our body. Junk food will affect our immune system badly and in today’s world if you don’t have a good immune system you can’t survive. So focus on your diet what you eat and set a healthy diet food chart. Junk food is not helpful for our body system and we can detach these foods from our lives if we determined strongly. So let’s come we will aware and our society and build a good environment.
God has created a beautiful mechanism with the heart, kidney, lungs, liver, brain. We harm these parts with fast food, processed food but our body parts never complaints & demands. We never think to clean them. Have we ever noticed about it…??? In simple language, we do service our bike or car before it breaks down, even so, we in no way ever thought about the internal body. We all the time believe in external beauty, how we look, have we well dressed up or not. It’s high time to be prepare and to be aware of our health and to be healthy. Otherwise guys our lives will revolve around 3Ds i.e Disease, Doctor, & Drugs. So the choice is yours guys want to live a healthy, peaceful life without stress, tension or to have a stressful, full of tension, and unhealthy life.
If you start to eat healthily you will feel changes in your body, you will have positive energy, good vibes. When we provide healthy food to our body it’s not only for us it’s for our next generations also. Just look at our previous generations they used to live a lifespan of 80-90 years, but nowadays life of 60 years is a great life we realized. Just think of once our grandparents lived a long life because of healthy genes and that comes from healthy what they had in their lives. So people avoid junk food, aware of oily food, be conscious of their health.
